(pd/hh) - The Fribourg International Film Festival (FIFF) goes behind the turntables from 15-24 March for a memorable set: 100 films from 49 countries, including 5 world premieres, 5 international, 5 European and 40 Swiss premieres. The 38th edition of the FIFF puts hip-hop culture, which is celebrating its 50th birthday this year, in the spotlight. In the "New Territory" section, it also presents the world's first panorama of North Macedonian filmmaking with ten feature-length films (including the Berlinale award-winner "God Exists, Her Name is Petrunya" by Teona Strugar Mitevska) and seven short films. In the "Diaspora" section, French-Iranian actress Golshifteh Farahani has selected six unknown films from her home country instead of great Iranian film classics, "extraordinary and crazy" works, as she says herself. Another "carte blanche" goes to French director Michel Gondry. The midnight screenings offer plenty of thrills, Great Cinema for Families offers film fun for young and old and Movie and a dinner promises a film experience with culinary delights in Fribourg restaurants. However, the centrepiece of the FIFF is still the feature film competition with 12 films from Africa, Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe that have never been shown in Switzerland before, and the short film competition with 16 short films. The festival has again invited an international ecumenical jury consisting of four members from INTERFILM and SIGNIS to view and judge the feature film competition in order to award the prize, endowed with CHF 5,000, sponsored by the ecumenical campaign of the Swiss Protestant Churches' relief organisation HEKS/Bread for All and Fastenaktion in cooperation with "Partner sein".
