In "Kumva - Which Comes from Silence" the jury appreciates the film's main topic, as silence not only gives rise to terrible memories of the 1994 genocide in Rwanda, but also to the need for new generations to live together in dialogue and with respect.

Award of the Interreligious Jury: "Kumva - Which Comes From Silence"
The Interreligious Jury in Leipzig has awarded its Prize at DOK Leipzig 2023 to the French production "Kumva - Ce qui vient du silence" (Kumva - Which Comes From Silence) by Sarah Mallégol, which deals with the attempts to come to terms with the genocide in Rwanda in 1994. The prize is endowed with 2,500 €, donated by the VCH Hotels Germany together with the VCH Hotel Michaelis in Leipzig as well as the Interreligious Round Table and the Leipzig Oratory. The Golden Dove in the international documentary film competition went to "While the Green Grass Grows" by Peter Mettler (Switzerland, Canada 2023). Jonathan Schörnig's documentary "One Hundred and Four" won a total of four prizes in the German Documentary Film Competition: the Golden Dove Long Film, the Leipzig Ring Film Prize, the Goethe-Institut Documentary Film Prize and the ver.di Prize for Solidarity, Humanity and Fairness. The film shows a sea rescue in the Mediterranean.
On 15 October, DOK Leipzig 2023 opened with the film "White Angel - The End of Marinka" by Arndt Ginzel. which documents the fate of the inhabitants of the small Ukrainian town of Marinka. Since 2016, an Interreligious Jury appointed by INTERFILM and SIGNIS has been observing the festival.

66 editions of a major international festival of non-fiction films (documentaries and animations) is in itself a sign of significant attention. Leipzig has long established and defended its name as an important centre for world cinema of the two types mentioned, and this holds true especially strongly for the documentary production.
