Natasha, an opera singer, leaves behind her husband and daughter in Russia to join Rafael, the Minister for Sport of Abkhazia, a territory within Georgia currently recognised by five states. Set in a decrepit seaside town on the Black Sea coast, this documentary comedy, as affectionate as it is ironic, intertwines the complexity of a love story with the sleepiness of an isolated state.

The festival was founded in 1969 by Moritz de Hadeln and his wife Erika and is dedicated to documentaries. Their successors Jean Perret and Gabriele Bussmann in 1995 renamed it "Visions du réel" to indicate the manyfold approach of documentaries to reality. Festival director since 2011 is Luciano Barisone.
