The Iranian film "Mahkom" (Convicted), directed by Mehdi Boostani, is the winner of the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury in Oberhausen 2001. The film got a Special Mention by the international festival jury as well. The Ecumenical Jury aewraded two Commendations in addtion: to "Le chapeau" (The Hat) by Michèle Cournoyer from Canada, and to "Afta" (Day After Day) by Kornél Mundruczó from Hungary. The Grand Prix of the City of Oberhausen was awarded to a film from Estonia, "Teekond nirvanaasse" (The Way to Nirvana) by Mait Lais. The Fipresci (International Film Critics) Jury awarded "Yorokobi" (Factory Girl) by Hiroyuki Matsumara from Japan.
