Compañeros - La noche de 12 años

A Twelve-Year Night
Directed by

Uruguay, 1973. The country is plunged into dictatorship. Three political dissidents are imprisoned in solitary confinement, forbidden to speak, see, eat, and sleep; thrust into a nightmare that lasts twelve years. Inspired by the destiny of three contemporary figures in Uruguay, including the former President José “Pepe” Mujica, the film draws an allusion to all the dictatorships which Latin America has been subjected to. (Festival information, Fribourg, 2019)

A psychological struggle in which signs of hope and solidarity give the characters the strength to survive. Based on a true story, this film leads us into the heart of an existential journey through the darkness of confinement and dictatorship. A movie that subtly juggles between darkness and light.
