In 2006, the festival was directed by Birgit Johnson for the first time. She launched a competition section for documentaries. The German-Spanish co-production "Mañana al mar" by Ines Thomsen won in this category. The Max Ophuels Prize went to "Der Schläfer" (Sleeper) by Benjamin Heisenberg. The INTERFILM jury awarded its prize to a short film: "37 ohne Zwiebeln" by André Erkau.
