We were impressed by the unagitated und quiet presenting of different approaches to grieve together with the sounds of the house and nature, which repeatedly dissolved into silence. That created a unique atmosphere. We were also struck by the complex sibling relationship on the one hand, which at the same time was reflected in the simplicity of the visual and cinematic language.

The Ecumenical Jury in Cottbus 2024 awarded its prize to the film "Dobra djeca" (Good Children, Croatia 2024) by Filip Peruzović. The festival's main prize for Best Feature Film went to "Kada je zazvonio telefon" (When the Phone Rang, Serbia, USA 2024) by Iva Radivojević, which also won the FIPRESCI Prize.
The Cottbus 2024 FilmFestival opened on 5 November with "Nakon ljeta" (My Late Summer) by Danis Tanović. It presented a total of 147 films from Eastern Central Europe, South Eastern Europe, Eastern Europe, the Baltic States, the Caucasus and Central Asia. In addition to three competition sections (feature film, short film and youth film), there are sections such as Spectrum (with the motto "Unusual films for unusual times"), Hits (with box office hits from Eastern Europe) and Specials. This year's country focus was on Armenia. A Ukrainian film day was also organised again. On 7 November, an Ecumenical Evening took place in the Oberkirche St. Nikolai, where the Ecumenical Jury introduced itself and a short film was shown. The event is intended as an opportunity for intercultural, interdenominational and interreligious encounters.
