In restrained images, the film tells the story of an old couple, returning after the war to his village and trying to cope with everyday life. Behind his patriarchal stubbornness the man hides care and love for his wife whose dementia progresses slowly. Intensified in the manner of a chamber play the film manages to evoke deep emotions without grand gestures.
