What cannot be said by words can be communicated by the face, rendered transcendental by Xavier Dolan's filming.
In what is not said, the screams and the looks, we find the history of a family where love is unspoken and where people yell not to reveal what is essential.
Upon his return Louis, the prodigal son who came to announce his impending death, chooses instead to inspire love and hope to his relatives.

"It's Just the End of the World" by Xavier Dolan is the winner of the Ecumenical Jury Prize in Cannes 2016. Two other competition films got a Commendation by the jury, "American Honey" by Andrea Arnold and "I, Daniel Blake" by Ken Loach who also won the Golden Palm of the International Jury.
For the 43rd time an Ecumenical Jury awarded prizes in Cannes, the most prestigious international film festival, which opened with a film by Woody Allen. Among the 21 competition entries the new films by Pedro Almodóvar, the Dardenne brothers, Asghar Farhadi, Jim Jarmusch, Ken Loach and Brillante Mendoza competed for the festival prizes. An honourable Golden Palm was awarded to actor Jean-Pierre Léaud who 1959 with 14 years took part in the festival for the first time in François Truffauts "Les quatre cents coups" (The 400 Blows).
In a special screening Cannes Classics honoured Georges Rouquiers "Farrebique" which has been awarded 70 years ago, 1946, with the prize of the international film critics (FIPRESCI) for the first time although not admitted to the international competition. The film portrays the life of a French peasant family over a year. In a digital restored copy the festival also screened Andrej Tarkowsky's "Solaris" which won the prize of the INTERFILM Jury in 1972.
During the festival the church film organisations operated a stand at the Marché de film in the festival palais which offers contacts, information on the church film commitment, and events. An ecumenical celebration took place on Wednesday, May 18, in a church in Cannes, followed by a reception of the City of Cannes.

A road-movie that gives a loving glimpse of a forgotten youth, a "sales crew" travelling from town to town. It shows their ability of inner strength and dignity, while at the same time providing a social seismograph of various segments of society. It is a threefold journey: a journey of the crew, a journey from wealth to poverty and an inner journey of each of the protagonists, Star and Jake haven't lost their ability to dream and to transform themselves.

Sustained by the great artistic qualities of the director, this movie portrays a man at the end of his life, who puts his own suffering aside to be of service to a family challenged by marginalization and poverty. Like a Good Samaritan, he brings them the attention and affection that are as necessary to human beings as material needs.
