Guntars Laucis is an independent producer, media consultant and manager. After studying graphic design and painting in Janis Rozentals College of Arts and the Latvian Academy of Arts he moved to film business with the start up media company RUUT Pictures in Tallinn. After the successful release of Made in Estonia (2003), he moved on to produce independently several films, including Monotony (2007, Best Film, Perspectives Competition, Moscow IFF), and Kolka Cool ( Cottbus IFF, FIPRESCI Prize). Currently he is working on VR media developments with the first Nordic full VR experience theme park PROTO Invention Factory.

This year’s festival edition was perhaps the first of its kind in history of Luebeck’s Nordic Film Days. After rapid changes in coronavirus pandemic developments in Europe it was decided that the festival moves completely online.

Current issues

Following the promising nominations, the Oscar ceremony felt like a disappointment. For the first time, the Academy had nominated international films such as “Sentimental Value” from Norway and “Secret Agent” from Brazil in the Best Picture category. Yet in the end, it was American productions that walked away with all the awards.
Film director Selma Vilhunen has won the Church Media Foundation’s 2026 prize for her documentary film 'Gate to Paradise' (Portti Paratiisiin).
