Sokea mies, joka ei halunnut nähdä Titanicia
Jaakko loves B-movies; his favourite director is John Carpenter. He has an impressive collection of DVDs, with only one that has yet to be unwrapped – James Cameron's "Titanic". He's never seen it, even when he could have. The young man suffers from MS, is blind, and in a wheelchair. He talks on the phone several times a day with Sirpa, whom he has never met. They flirt, tell each other nice things, and share their suffering. Because the woman on the other end of the line is also seriously ill. When she receives a bitter diagnosis, Jaakko decides to visit her.
In a unique way the film allows the viewer to begin to understand handicapped people’s view on the world. It’s a masterfully executed project, which deserves a large audience, because it’s a stepping stone towards greater empathy. The film features one of the strongest lead characters. Petri Poikolainen, having the same disease as his character, portrays Jaakko with dignity and humor.
