The Ecumenical Jury has chosen to award a film that invites the viewer to reflect on the passing of time and the various spheres of creation. Its contemplative pace, the originality of its cinematic language, the strength of its aesthetics and the absence of words convey a poetic atmosphere. The experience becomes spiritual, though the story is based on a historical event and set in a specific geographical area, recounting an old shepherd’s departure from this world and, in a parallel manner, a young group’s exploration of the depths of the earth. The film empowers us to face our own fragility even as we long for eternity.

Founded in 2004, the festival since its beginnings has been directed by Tibor Biró. It has developed into one of the most important festivals in Hungary. Since 2011, the festival has been accompanied by an ecumenical jury. It chooses its prize-winner from the films in the feature film competition, which comprises 16 entries in 2022. Among others, "Return to Dust" by Ruijun Li (China 2022), "EO" by Jerzy Skolimowski (Poland, Italy 2022) or "Close" by Lukas Dhont (Belgium, Netherlands, France 2022) will be shown and celebrate their Hungarian premiere in Miskolc. Of the three Hungarian films in the competition programme, two are world premieres.
