Roland Wicher studied Protestant Theology, Art History and Science of Religions in Frankfurt/Main and Berlin. He has been a member of INTERFILM since 1999, and was a member of various ecumenical juries in Oberhausen, Mannheim and Berlin. He has published numerous scientific essays, articles and reviews on the relation of film and theology, has held many lectures and seminars on this topic and has done scientific research especially concerning religion, violence and film aesthetics and the work of Martin Scorsese. He is currently Film Commissioner of the Evangelical Church in Berlin, Brandenburg and Schlesische Oberlausitz (EKBO) and Jury Delegate of INTERFILM for the organisation of the Ecumenical Jury at the Berlin Film Festival (Berlinale). Roland Wicher works as a pastor of the congregation of Petrus-Giesensdorf, being responsible for the cultural programme, including approximately sixty concerts a year and monthly exhibitions at the Petruskirche in Lichterfelde Ost.
