Fribourg

On Sunday, March 18, the 15th Filmfestival Friborg came to an end. During eight days nearly 22,000 visitors took the opportunity to discover foreign worlds and their ways of life and thinking in the works of filmmakers from the South. Asian cinema was strongly represented among the twelve films of the international competition. This is also reflected in the winners of the festival: All main prizes of the various juries went either to one of the three films from Taiwan or to the Chinese contribution. The Ecumenical Jury of the churches awarded its prize of CHF 5,000 to the Taiwanese film "Wo Jiao A-Ming La" (Bundled) by director Singing Chen. In addition, the Ecumenical Jury awarded a Commendation to the film "Hacerse El Sueco" (Playing Suede) by Daniel Diaz Torres, Cuba. The International Jury's Grand Prize went to "Yi Yi" (A One and a Two) by Taiwanese director Edward Yang, who recounts a middle-class family history of Tai peh. The film will soon be shown by the distributor trigon-film in Swiss cinemas.
