An odyssey of two young boys from Senegal to Europe. They fight for freedom, equality and justice in face of dehumanization. Through their pure naivety they expose the evil and manage to overcome. Seydou takes responsibility claiming God is with us and grows from boy to man. He becomes the master of his own life and the captain of his soul. 80th International Film Festival Venice
The INTERFILM Jury at the 80th Venice International Film Festival has assigned the INTERFILM Award for the Promotion of Interreligious Dialogue to the film "Io capitano" by Matteo Garrone. The film received numerous other awards, including the Silver Lion for Best Director and the Catholic SIGNIS Jury Prize. The Golden Lion was won by "Poor Things" by Yorgos Lanthimos. The Grand Prix of the Festival Jury went to "Evil Does not Exist" (Aku wa sonzai shinai) by Ryusuke Hamaguchi, which also won the International Film Critics' Prize (Fipresci). The festival jury under its president Damien Chazelle awarded its Special Prize to "Green Border" (Zieloma granica) by Agnieszka Holland.
The 80th Venice International Film Festival took place from 30 August to 9 September, at which the INTERFILM jury presented its Award for the Promotion of Interreligious Dialogue for the twelfth time. The jury chooses the winner from the two competition sections Venezia 80 and Orizzonti.
The festival opened with the Italian competition entry "Comandante" by Edoardo De Angelis. In the retrospective "Venice Classics", restored versions of Tarkovsky's "Andrei Rublyov", Yasujirō Ozu's "There Was a Father", Sergei Paradjanov's "Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors" and Lucchino Visconti's "Bellissima" were shown, among others.
